Governor Riley Offers Reward for Information Regarding the Murder of Pregnant Woman in Marshall County

Governor Bob Riley announced Wednesday that his office is offering a $5,000 reward to help police solve the murder of Brandi Parker, who was found shot to death in her truck last week in Albertville.

"Every effort must be made to bring justice to the killer of Brandi Parker and her unborn son. I'm hopeful that the offering of a reward will encourage someone with information to come forward and help police catch the person responsible for this heinous crime," Governor Riley said.

Anyone with information about the crime should contact Albertville Police Chief Benny Womack at (256) 878-1212.

The Governor also said he is again urging the Legislature to pass a bill he submitted in the last regular session that would offer legal protections for unborn victims of crime. Under the proposal, someone who commits a violent act against a pregnant mother that results in the loss of her unborn child could be charged with the murder of that child.

In his State of the State Address in February, Governor Riley called on the Legislature to pass the bill. "All life, the born and unborn, is a gift from God and has worth and value. Therefore, I call upon the Legislature to pass a law acknowledging the fact that crimes of violence against pregnant women have two victims and those who commit such crimes should be punished for committing two offenses," Governor Riley said in his address.
